چکیده

FIG. 1 Formulae of the drug under study. Limited supplies of two further methylated thiobarbiturates, described by Peel et al. (1959), known as B.82 and B.133 have become available. The formulae of these are shown in figure 1 and it can be seen that B.82 is the methylated form of buthalitone. B.133 is not related chemically to any thiobarbiturate in clinical use, being sodium N-methyl 5-ethyl 5'-isobutyl thiobarbiturate. This paper reports on a clinical trial of these two compounds in which their effects are compared with those of thiopentone and buthalitone.

Clinical studies of induction agents. XVII. Relationship between dosage and side effects of intravenous barbiturates.

A retrospective analysis of the records of about 9,000 intravenous anaesthetics showed a striking relationship between dosage and induction complications. While the incidence of excitatory phenomena increased with dosage of thiobarbiturates, this effect was more marked with methylated barbiturates. The greater frequency of respiratory complications (cough, hiccough and laryngospasm) with high d...

Antibacterial, Antiurease, and Antioxidant Activities of Some Arylidene Barbiturates

Some series of arylidene barbiturates and thiobarbiturates were evaluated for their antibacterial, antioxidant, and urease inhibition activities. The arylidene barbiturates and thiobarbiturates were tested for antimicrobial activity using the agar well diffusion technique against 13 bacteria. The synthesized compounds (1a-g) were screened for antiurease and antioxidant activities. The results s...

New methodology for the synthesis of thiobarbiturates mediated by manganese(III) acetate.

A three step synthesis of various thiobarbiturate derivatives 17-24 was established. The first step is mediated by Mn(OAc)₃, in order to generate a carbon-carbon bond between a terminal alkene and malonate. Derivatives 1-8 were obtained in moderate to good yields under mild conditions. This key step allows synthesis of a wide variety of lipophilic thiobarbiturates, which could be tested for the...

Design of New and Potent Diethyl Thiobarbiturates as Urease Inhibitors: A Computational Approach

Urease is an important enzyme both in agriculture and medicine research. Strategies based on urease inhibition is critically considered as the first line treatment of infections caused by urease producing bacteria. Since, urease possess agro-chemical and medicinal importance, thus, it is necessary to search for the novel compounds capable of inhibiting this enzyme. Several computational methods...

Anesthetic Management of the Horse: Intravenous Anesthesia

Introduction For decades thiobarbiturates have been used to induce and maintain short term (15 30 minutes) general anesthesia in equids. Thiamylal is no longer commercially available, at least in the United States, but use of thiopental remains widespread. In earlier years these ultrashort acting barbiturates were the agents of choice to induce short term recumbency in tranquilized horses. Late...
